Separated by the Mozambique Channel from the mainland of Africa, Madagascar is the fourth largest island in the world covering 590,000 square kilometres. It has a unique variety of wildlife, flora and fauna and landscapes of incredible beauty. The population is a mixture of Polynesions and Africans who arrived some 1500 years ago. It offers the traveller a rare opportunity to experience a world little known to most people. In 1992 I spent 3 weeks in Madagascar. It was undoubtedly one of the best trips I have had in over 22 years of travelling overseas. I would rate it as among my favourite top 3 countries. Madagascar Glossary
